Heat Map Analysis — Visualise What Your Literature Covers

Before you write a single word of your literature review, you need to know what the literature has already said — and how much it has said it. The Gaptrium™ Heat Map answers this question visually, mathematically, and reproducibly.

What is Heat Map Analysis?

The Heat Map plots every document in your corpus against every analytical term you define. Each cell shows the co-occurrence frequency between a document and a term — the darker the cell, the more prominent that term is in that document. Clusters of dark cells reveal the literature's obsessions. Blank rows reveal the gaps.

How it works

Drop your PDFs into Gaptrium™. Define your analytical terms — or let the platform suggest them from your corpus. In seconds, the Heat Map renders a full matrix: documents on one axis, terms on the other. Every cell is a count. Every count is traceable back to the source document. No probability. No inference. No hallucination.

Who uses Heat Map Analysis?

🎓

Systematic Literature Review

Identify which themes are over-represented and which are absent before writing your introduction. Show your supervisory committee a reproducible map of the field.

💼

Competitive Intelligence

Map which topics competitors mention in their filings and which they conspicuously avoid. Silence in an annual report is a signal.

🏛️

Policy & Regulatory Audit

Verify that every required topic is addressed across a set of compliance documents. Every gap is traceable to a specific document and term.

🏭

R&D Gap Detection

Cross-reference your patent portfolio against published literature to find topics researched but not yet protected.

Frequently asked questions

What file formats does Heat Map Analysis support?

Gaptrium™ processes PDF files. All processing happens in your browser — no file is ever uploaded to a server.

How many documents can I analyse?

Trial: 20 documents. Scope: 100. Education: 300 per user. Signal: 500. Core: unlimited. There is no file size limit on any plan.

Can I export the Heat Map?

Yes. Export as PNG (all plans), HTML (Scope and above), or PDF (Education, Signal, Core).

Is the result reproducible?

Yes — deterministically. The same corpus with the same terms produces the same Heat Map every time, on any device, by any researcher. This is a core design requirement for peer review.

Does Gaptrium™ use AI to generate the Heat Map?

No. The Heat Map is built from exact term frequencies. There is no language model, no probabilistic inference, and no hallucination risk. Every cell is a count you can verify manually.
